The new year huh? Many of us have outgrown 2020 because it has felt so long and eventful in ways we didn't expect. It has been a recent thought of mine questioning if I'm ready for the next chapter. The notion of a 'new year, new me' has caught me off guard a little, so this week's blog delves into the meaning of it all.
Don't get me wrong, I'm excited for the new year-a fresh start for us all really. While none of us knows what 2021 holds, I can say that I'm more willing to take on the challenges and wins to come. 2020 has helped me to shift my mindset a lot from being 'anxious' all the time to now becoming more 'accepting' of how life plays out. What stops me from seeing the beauty of a new year is my mind defaulting to very solid ideals, standards and goals. If you are anything like myself, you often find your mind racing ahead of time (all the time) which prevents you from really being present. When I catch myself thinking in that way I make efforts to mentally slow down a little.
Getting ready for a new year shouldn't be about putting pressure on yourself but rather embracing your self-journey. I'm aware this sounds cliche- but truth be told change shouldn't be enforced. We all have flaws, imperfections, areas in our lives that we don't like but rather than wishing it were different we should work towards making it better. Remember you can still achieve your goals by doing subtle things. E.g you want to get a new job, you can start by reading to educate yourself.
Intentions matter. They are shaped by a lot of things such as mindset, attitude, experience, opinions etc. Going into a new year without a 'why' or focus can be very offputting especially when you lack motivation or your headspace isn't in the right place. Do you have an intention for 2021? There are many adverts, campaigns, friends and family that can sway your new year's resolutions BUT you define the coming year, not anyone else. I'm realising now that milestones and goals in life are personal and shouldn't be generic- after all, it is your life.
If there is something you take away from this, it is ok to be ambitious and still loosen your goals - especially if you are a perfectionist. 2020 has shown us all how short and valuable life is. Comment below highlight/key moments you vividly remember in 2020. How did they make you feel?
Thank you for reading. Until next time...Ludel
Ps. Take each day as it comes.
